super (average) 8

the film written and directed by J.J. Abrams for me was a slight disappointment. As a homage to steven Spielberg it ticked all the conventional boxes, but for me that was half the problem. it's story line lacked originality with army fighting a 'good' alien. For me it was like a child that couldn't get any attention so they made loads of pointless noise  in a lack luster attempt for people to look at it. alas, it did have some redeeming features like the performance of all of the child actors ... They put the adults in the film to shame(which i guess is still a kind of criticism). with all of this it still kept me glued to the screen, its geeky endearing charm worked on me it kept me hooked from start to finnish.

At the end of the film they showed us the kids final movie and in my opinion it was a more polished and less farcical than the original. i feel that the fact that they tried to keep the violence and dark theme to a minimum to keep with in a PG-13(12 A) hindered a decent story line .

super 8 in my opinion may as well have been Humpty Dumpty the film started and then it ended while having explosions in the middle and with a film like this i was waiting for a twist or a shock death or something to make us interact with characters.

Story line ***
Visual *****
complete film **

although for me it was a disappointment, I still left with a cheeky grin on my face knowing order was restored by kids (cringe) but for me that was the film cringe worthy but it still made me smile.

GHS media award

A few nights ago it was the GHS anual media awards yay! All in all i saw some quite good productions and some ... Interesting one's as a whole though the night was pretty awesome. my two favorite productions had to be the music video "I hate love" and probably 'outsider'. I feel the year 13 productions were ALOT better than the year 12s maybe a year made all the difference although saying that the worst production of the night was a year 13's (in my humble opinion).

outsider :

I feel outsider was definitely the exception being one of the best productions of the night . The  supernatural horror starts showing a girl obviously uncomfortable rolling about , as you watch on further it becomes apparent that a group of boys raped her and her ghost is haunting them (at least thats what i think it was about) this production was so affective because they captured the spirit of the horror genre ... it's all about spectacle rather than the technical side of the story line. This production left me in drewling at the scream wanting more

www: excellently shot , a lack of words (a poor microphone with almost no bass which threatened to break the tension)and decent mise-en-scene

ebi: it was longer

I HATE LOVE:

The music video i think was delivered expertly it felt like i just turned over to MTV plus the song (originally by jojo) was sung quite well wich jus added to the euphoric feel of the music video. This sons lyrics moans a hell of a lot about the patriarchal society we live in and yet in the music video they went for a shot of an outline of a female  dancing provocatively... hey but who am i to say this is wrong Beyonce does worse in " run the world "... I jus feel removing her features as a person and leaving it just as an outline objectifies her even more re-enforcing the male gaze.

www: the video was pretty awesome not many faults

ebi: it lacked originality because it was jus a direct cover ... it would have been more interesting if they turned the song to a ballad and done a music vide of that!!!
